Custom Hanging Sign

This custom hanging sign that we did recently was shipped to a clothing designer in Graz Austria. It is double sided with the the logo at the top and the carved skirt done as add-ons to give a 3 dimensional effect. All the gold is is gilded by hand with real gold leaf. It is simple yet attractive and gives a feeling of quality. With the real gold gilding that does not tarnish and the UV resistant acrylic paint it should attract customers for many years.

Every so often we receive an unusual design request. The sign below, given the name Arthur, was certainly one of them. I never inquired as to the intended purpose of the sign but I assume it is doing it’s job well. Certainly it is not a house sign but we enjoyed making it all the same.

Backdrop Gherkin

Here is another business sign we did recently. We don’t usually do installations but since this one was just down the road and in the heart of downtown London we decided to do it ourselves to be sure it was done right. At first glance the sign might not look that big. In fact is is 2.85 meters long and 66 cm wide. A little bigger than your normal house sign! You might just be able to see that it has two joints inside the A’s at both ends but that sure does not distract from the effect of the sign. Here are some before and after shots, unfortunately it was raining so the photos are not the best.

To the Coast of Africa

Having just come into the business here at Clover Signs I was pleasantly surprised to receive a request to design a sign to be presented as a house warming gift. In further inquiry into the design we found it to be headed for the coast of South Africa to a house overlooking the Indian ocean. The sign was to reflect the beauty of the view and the patriotic feelings of the intended recipient. Here is what we came up with after some back and forth with the benefactor.

Irish Pub Signs

Have you ever wanted your very own Irish pub sign? The sign below was actually made as a wedding present for somebody else, but it is a take off on an actual Irish pub sign. The customer actually visited our workshop and we sat down and designed the sign together. After a few final tweaks, the design was ready to put into production, and I have to say, I am more than impressed with the final result.

Nursery Signs

With the housing market in the worst slump in decades, and people pinching pennies accross the board, we are having to rack our brains about how to continue selling signs. Government funded nurseries seem to still have some money hanging about so we decided to at least test the waters of this new market. Here is our first nursery sign with hopefully many to follow:

The Dead Ostrich

Possibly the most humorous sign we have made, “The Dead Ostrich” is to hang in a private study, (not on a pub). The background depicts a pub building on a hill top in the Karoo region of South Africa, hense the Afrikaans translation on the reverse of the sign. It was given as a 70th birthday present to a much loved uncle, and I trust he is enjoying it on his wall as much as we enjoyed designing and crafting it.

Seasonal Signs

Throughout the course of the year, we here at Clover Signs can’t help but notice the tendency of people to request a house sign design that is in keeping with that particular time of year. For instance, many crocuses and daffodils are requested in Spring, and we seem to paint a lot of blackberries and apples in the Autumn and poppies in November. This seems quite logical except when you stop to think that your house sign will be up year round. Nevertheless, we are still receiving orders for and making numerous Holly House signs like this one.

Tempted? It’s not too late for that last minute Christmas present. However, orders must be placed by the 10th of December in order to deliver by Christmas. Just remember, a house sign will last many years and will be on your house throughout all the seasons, so don’t limit yourself to the present moment.

School Signs

Traditionally, a house sign maker, Clover Signs has recently branched out into making School Signs. One such sign we did completely gratis for a primary school in Rwanda. An acquaintance of mine and his wife had travelled there earlier this year and had seen the school under construction. The school is now completed, and, with the help of Oxfam, they have received their new sign from Clover Signs.
